You know, anxiety and stress are two emotions that are common with moving. The first step is to take it one step at a time. Be patient with the whole process and believe me it will help the packing, loading and unpacking process go smoother than you expected.
Packing Tips
Moving day has arrives and you assumed the responsibility to pack the truck or pod. For most people in this situation, when they look around at all the stacked boxes it's common to want to just stack them into the truck or pod just to get going and to get the move over with as quickly as possible. Don't fall into that mentality because by taking the time to Place items correctly inside your truck will ensure your items wont get damaged while in transit and it will help unloading a whole lot easier. Here are 6 suggestions:
1. Assess just how much stuff you will be moving. Account for large items like sofas, chairs, refrigerators washer and dryers etc, this way you can arrange for the appropriate size rental truck or pod.
2. It's recommended by professional packers that you load the heaviest items first because it helps with keeping the truck or pod stable.
3. You should store items that you will use immediately or most at the front of the truck so that you can locate them and have access to them easily.
4. It is recommended that you load the truck only a quarter of the way at a time and pack it tightly from the floor to the ceiling.
5. To prevent further shifting secure each quarter section with strong rope tied down to the tie-down rings strategically placed around the truck.
6. Place bureaus, large china cabinets, sofas, refrigerators, and other heavy appliances against the front wall of the truck.
Unpacking Tips
Well you've arrives at this point of the journey safe and sound and that's all good. Right now your probably looking around at all those stacked boxes, with the unsettling urge to quickly put things in its place, any place for that matter just to get that settled home feeling again. That's a normal reaction but take some time with unpacking because it will save you headaches later on. Here are two important tips to keep in mind:
1. Keep in mind that unpacking doesn't have to complete in a day or even a week for that matter.
2. As long as you can locate personal items or items for your families basic needs the rest you can work around to unpack accordingly.
3. Try to make a game out of it, sort of like an adventure you just came home from. Keep positive and it will rub off on others around you.
4. Start with the basics and leave less-frequently-used items in boxes until you decide your room and storage arrangements.
5. Unpack one room at a time. Once the kitchen and the bathroom are operational, the rest of the unpacking can take place without a sense of urgency
