   Decorating With Pecans? Why Yes!

What types of decorations can be made with pecans?

The type of decorations that you can make using pecans is limited only to your imagination and your particular beliefs. Some people think that you cannot use any types of food items to make household decorations; but they are not thinking back to their own younger school days when they made pasta snowflakes for their Christmas tree or pasta shell necklaces for their parents. Are you folks forgetting about stringing popcorn and cranberries to form garland? What makes you think that you cannot use pecans as a decoration or part of your project? That is out of date thinking!

Using the pecan shells to make decorations

If you are going to use just the pecan shells to make some decorations, you really need to remember to crack your pecans open very carefully. If you are very careful you will be able to crack the shells in only two pieces which can be strung together or glued onto a piece of construction paper as part of a mosaic or picture of some sort. If you intend to use those shell pieces to form a mosaic or image of some sort you don’t really need to be as careful when you crack open those pecans as you would when you want to use the shell halves. Just be careful that you do not end up with pieces that are too small.

Can whole unshelled pecans be strung together?

As a matter of fact, it is possible to punch or drill a small hole in the pecan to run a length of thread through as you would when stringing bead, cranberries or popcorn; you just need to be careful about how you go about doing this. If you use too much pressure or hit the shell too hard, you will shatter the shell; which is not what you want to do at all. Remember that pecan shells are very hard; thus you might end up shattering those shells in small pieces… not a good sight at all.

No limits on what you can make!

The only limitations you have on what you can make using pecans are the amount of pecans that you have, your other supplies and what you can dream up. There is nothing that says that you cannot use the pecans themselves as part of your designing. You might be thinking that the meat of the nut is too soft or will fall apart too easily if you were to try using it in your design; but this is not really the case. If you are planning to glue the meat of the nut onto your paper or whatever you are using than you will not have any problems. You might have a bit of trouble if you were to try stringing the nut meat on thread; however, you might not either. It all depends upon how careful you are and what you have in mind. Trying to string the nut meats as a necklace might not work though; so you might want to re think that idea. One idea that you might have a good bit of fun with is creating a mosaic out of the small shell pieces.
