Flying into Inverness Airport can truly be regarded as entering one of the most beautiful regions in the UK if not the world. The city of Inverness is regarded by many to be the capital of the Highlands and as such is the perfect base to use a hire car and tour this rugged wilderness. The city of Inverness lies approximately seven miles from the airport and is a city that is bustling, vibrant and rapidly becoming a popular tourist destination. Any trip to Scotland would be incomplete without seeing some of the marvellous castles that dot the countryside. The Highlands however are most famous for the whiskies produced in the region. Using your hire car to tour the many distilleries is highly advisable although adding another driver is a sensible idea to ensure drink driving is not a problem. With so many distilleries showcasing the very best whiskies in the world you are sure to find a tipple to your liking. If visiting in July a must see is the Highland Games competition. This event represents true Scottishness and is a worthwhile addition to any trip itinerary.
So when flying into Inverness airport remember that your hire car will do more than just get you to your hotel. With such a wealth of attractions and natural beauty only a short drive away it would be criminal to miss out on the Highlands experience. Whether it is monster spotting, discovering the fascinating history of the region's castles or even seeing dolphins, there is plenty to do in this magical land. |
