Styling your hair is fun but it can be damaging for your hair. Most women these days own at least one curling iron. This is to help them achieve a different style at their convenience. This is also a cash saving device. Instead of going to the salon, you can do it by yourself at home.

A drawback in owning a curling iron is that we tend to use it on a daily basis. This is all right if we have an ionic curling iron designed for daily use. However, not most of us do. In order to achieve a smooth finish, we have to prepare our hair for curling properly.

Here are simple steps to prepare your hair before curling.

1. Shampoo and condition your hair. Shampooing your hair prior to any styling is essential to eliminate unknown residues from your hair. You should also remember to condition it. Conditioning is essential because it easily frees your hair of the tangles; thus, making your hair more manageable. It is also important because it can add protection to your hair as you apply heat to style it. Heat is one of the major causes of hair damage. Nevertheless, reshaping your hair requires heat.

2. Remove the excess water from your hair using a towel. You can air dry it for a while. After that, apply a protective product on your hair. Distribute it well from roots to tips. This will protect your hair from the heat.

3. Blow dry the hair thoroughly. Blow drying it by section will help achieve the desired results. Work on them one portion at a time. Holding up the hair using a clipper will make your work faster. Use a round brush to smoothen and separate the strands as you dry it.

4. Once it is dry, comb the hair using a wide toothcomb. Gently free it of the tangles. If you used a conditioner, the tangles will go right off. Apply curling wax and group your hair in sections again. Leave the part you wish to work on free. Before curling it with your ionic curling iron, apply a heat protection spray to prevent it from getting burn.

5. When curling, use smaller sections at a time. This way, hair curls faster. The curling wax cuts the curling time. Do not leave the iron on your hair for more than eight second. They should not be difficult because of the wax and the kind of iron you are using.
Do not comb your hair right after you are done with the curling process. This will put your efforts to waste. If you want to ease the curls a bit, use your hand to free them.

In order to achieve natural looking curls, one has to prepare her hair correctly. It starts with cleaning and conditioning the hair. After that, apply a protective product to prevent the heat from damaging the hair. Completely dry the hair with a blow dryer and remove any tangles while doing so. Apply a curling wax and group your hair into smaller sections. Work on it a section at a time. Apply protective spray before curling it with the iron.
