Most women will experience a vaginal yeast infection at some point in their life and may take either over the counter or a prescription medicine to help relieve the symptoms. A common treatment for vaginal yeast infections is a topical cream or pessary called Clotrimaderm. You should be very careful to read the leaflet enclosed as there as some people for whom this drug may cause harmful side effects.
In most cases any side effects that are experienced are minor. These will usually go away on their own and include itching, cramping, bloating and irritation. Although these are minor side effects you should still contact your doctor if you feel they have become severe.

You should not use this medication if you are pregnant as there is a risk it could be harmful to your unborn baby. If you become pregnant while you are using this then you should seek medical advice. There is insufficient evidence to show whether Clotrimaderm is safe to take while breastfeeding. Therefore it is advised that you do not take it unless your doctors advises you to. You should also not give this medication to girls under twelve years old.
It is important to be aware that this medication can interact with others and therefore it is vital that you tell you doctor about any other medication that you are taking. You should make sure to mention any supplements or herbal medication that you are taking as these can also have a negative reaction when mixed. In particular alcohol, caffeine and illegal drugs can have reduce the effectiveness of the drug.
If you are already taking medication your doctor may suggest that you only take one of them or they may choose to monitor you for any negative changes whilst you are taking both. It is very important that you tell your doctor about any medications you are taking and that you know what side effects are possible.
