This article will set out and examine the pros and cons of three popular GPS devices manufactured by Magellan, Harman Becker and Garmin. These two companies are the leading manufacturers of GPS receivers worldwide.
Although both of them have several models on the market this article will examine the most popular GPS models.
The Garmin Nuvi 265w GPS receiver is considered to be one of the few low price GPS systems on the market that has many features.
The manufacturer, Garmin, has a reputation for manufacturing quality portable navigation systems and is considered one of the leaders in the field. When using the Garmin 4.3 Nuvi 265 wt GPS Navigator and setting up you destination, you can select from the shortest distance in miles or time and this receiver will then give you step by step voice direction.
What will happen is that the receiver will then give you a voice direction. Just like some other devices this one will also give you the time of arrival to your destination taking in consideration your current speed.
One of the helpful features is that you can create different points of interest while you drive and during one route. This is particularly helpful when you need to make a few stops during your trip.
The unit has a total of 6 million different points of interest preloaded. It has a variety of ways to select your destination, with a very complete POI listing of stores, businesses, and other municipal locations.
The approximately 6 million points of interest are broken down to 14 categories that make sense, allowing you to look at the category listing by closest proximity.
In terms of cons, the Garmin 4.3 nuvi 265 wt GPS doesn't come with wall charger, A/C adapter, or carrying case, it cannot locate points of interest if they are misspelled and there is there is no text-to-speech option on the other models of the 200 series.
In addition, I found the voice direction option to be a bit annoying. One more notable GPS receiver from Magellan is the Magellan Maestro 3200. This GPS device is part of the line of GPS navigation systems that Magellan released during the fall of 2007.
It is an affordable unit and packs a high powered GPS system, very easy to use and is specifically designed for first time users. Users find this device to be particularly potable due to its design. It literally fits anywhere.
This feature is something not that many gps device share. It has a simple and easy to use touch screen and comes loaded with maps of the US, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The device also features verbal and on screen directions to guide you to your destination.
The 3.5-inch, anti-glare, touch screen presents the user with an intuitive list of options. The screen displays the position of the user and can offer the user a useful information such as distance to destination, the distance to the next turn and the estimated time of arrival. The Magellan Maestro 3200 also features SD card compatibility so that the user can easily back-up their address book and more.
The third GPS device we will be looking at is the Harman Becker 7934 gps traffic assist. The Traffic Assist High speed 7934 comes bundled with maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico just like most other GPS devices.
The Traffic Assist Highspeed 7934 features a 3.5" touch screen with a day and night display option for clear viewing at all times. The GPS device runs on a 400MHz processor which helps in faster re-routing. Thanks to dual speakers, you get clear sound even in noisy environments.
For those who like to keep track of how fast they are going the Traffic Assist Highspeed 7934 has a legal speed limit display and there's even a voice warning the driver in case she is driving faster than the posted speed limit.
As for other multimedia functions the Harman Becker 7934 GPS traffic assist comes with an integrated MP3/WMA player that you can listen to either on the integrated speakers or headphones. The device also comes with a JPEG/photo viewer.
As you can see all of the above devices have pros and cons. It is therefore important to do a bit of searching online to find the right GPS device for your needs. |
