When we or others receive a dream that seem more meaningful than a normal one, we could try to understand more whether it is a divine dream by some principles we learn from the Bible, like its intensity and efficacy. Another important principle is conformity.<br /> <br /> Everything changes except God. Jesus says 'For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.' Any form of revelations including dreams and visions conform to His truth. In contrast, if a dream implies something contrary to biblical truth, it cannot be from God. Also, for predictions of the future, there is no reason why a true prophecy from God does not come into fulfillment.<br /> <br /> In Deuteronomy chapter 13, we see a law of the Israelites. If a man claim to have a dream of divine nature, but he says to the people that they should worship another God. The man must be killed without mercy. Clearly the dream is not in line with the teachings from the Bible and hence cannot be of God. All dreams or visions that carry messages that contradicts the Bible are not from God, even if they came with miracles.<br /> <br /> Moreover, according to Deuteronomy chapter 18 and Jeremiah chapter 23, in the situation where a dream claimed to have got a dream from God that brought a prophecy, whether the prophecy was personal or related to the whole community; if the prophecy was not fulfilled in the future or it did not conform to the future event, then the dream must be a false dream and the dreamer of the dream is called a false prophet who must be stoned to death.<br /> <br /> We know that God is infinite. But we have to know that the principles to judge a revelation are finite. Therefore, we must not limit the way God communicate with us. Of course, we must test each and every claimed prophecy or dream with biblical truth. We must not accept some messages as the word of God casually or according to ourselves. But at the same time, we must stay tender and open to God. We welcome the new work of God. We welcome God to speak to us and encounter us in whatever ways He wills.<br /> <br /> It is our responsibility to discern prophecies and revelations. But we must not be extreme and try to limit the work of God with manmade principles. It is important that we do not casually claim a dream to be a divine one from God. It is as important not to judge someone else and say that their dreams were not from God. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. substance: or, ground, or, confidence. It creates tension in our existence. It also creates tension in our discernment of prophetic dreams.
