Today even major stars may see their work go directly to DVD. Animated fare can sometimes earn more on the sales rack than in the multiplex. Below is a fine list of some good and not so good movies that went straight to DVD.<br /> <br /> Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure (2009) - This straight to DVD animation for children was the biggest winner in the marketplace in 2009. Disney's DVD releases are intended for a younger audience. Adults are to be forgiven for tiring of Tinker Bell the second time around.<br /> <br /> Suburban Girl (2007) - Alex Baldwin is a great actor, just ask him. No, seriously the star has delivered some very good screen performances in recent years. In Suburban Girl, Baldwin is fine as an older man involved with a younger woman. Unfortunately that younger woman is Sarah Michelle Gellar, who should stick to vampire slaying.<br /> <br /> Wonder Woman (2009) - This excellent animated film from Warner is almost too good to be called a cartoon. Keri Russell voices the superhero and the well-scripted story pleases even adult viewers.<br /> <br /> The Contract (2007) - Sometimes good movies are crippled by bad buzz. The Contract was intended for Kevin Costner. Costner backed out and John Cusack stepped in co-starring with Morgan Freeman in this good guy, bad guy in the wilderness thriller. Cusack is outstanding. Bruce Beresford directs.<br /> <br /> Futurama: Bender's Big Score (2007) - Fox Television cancelled Futurama in 2003. The continued popularity of Futurama in reruns ultimately led to this very smart, very funny straight to DVD offering.<br /> <br /> Man About Town (2005) - What can you say about Ben Affleck? When he's good (think, Hollywoodland) he's very good, but when he's bad he's Ben. This tale of a nasty Hollywood talent agent would have us think kindly of Gigli.<br /> <br /> Highlander: The Search for Vengeance (2007) - An anime addition to the Highlander franchise. This slick offering from studio Anchor Bay serves up better storytelling than several of the Highlander live-action films do. Dig the Scots clan wars!<br /> <br /> The Flock (2007) - Richard Gere only gets better, witness his stellar work in The Hunting Party. Gere's performance in The Flock is good as well. Claire Danes is outstanding. This thriller never quite gets off the ground, but straight to DVD? <br /> <br /> Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) - There's trouble in Raccoon City, and this animated codicil to the Resident Evil oeuvre gives us zombies to die for.<br /> <br /> I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) - Even a great director like Amy Heckerling, and star Michelle Pfeiffer couldn't save this cougar-tale of an older woman in love with Paul Rudd. To be fair, the film suffered from distribution problems.
