Hdtv Is The Future In Television For Cable And Satellite
- By: William Stepp
Technology continues to change the ways that we live our lives, right down to how we relax at home. Home theaters are giving cinemas are a run for their money. Once set up, it can be more comfortable and less expensive than going out. When trying to get things just right, you need to know what you are looking for, and why HDTV is such a hot commodity.
In 1998 high definition television made its big debut, and many were positively drooling with excitement, most of them sports fans. Publicly the introduction of the newest technology was praised as revolutionary, something that would create the perfect viewing experience. Not everyone is agreement though, and there are lots of people that think that the picture really is not all that good.
What really sets it apart is that the standards used are the highest quality digital display available. The resolution is at the highest possible on the market today. It is still a digital television, and does not differ in the format of the signal received. Anything that is meant for a digital TV can be viewed on them. The reverse does not hold true.
The highest quality in analog is the lowest quality available for digital television. This means that even if you do not notice an improvement in picture quality, it is at the very least as good as what you have been used to. Any improvement at all though and you will want to watch your old favorites again so that you can see everything you missed before.
The first major overhaul made to television broadcasts was to allow for color. There was also a big to do made about making sure that shows were broadcast with stereo sound. When these changes were made it was a little different. If you were watching a show that was being broadcast in color, you could still watch it on a black and white set. If you try to watch TV now with an analog set, you will get nothing. You must have a set that is compatible, or at least a way to convert the digital coming in to a format that will display on an analog screen.
Visually, what is the real difference? Simply put, when you watch movies at home, you no longer have to deal with those annoying black bars at the top and the bottom of the screen. This is because the screen is wider and allows for the larger picture to be viewed without the aid of ugly bars. Annoyance gone.
Given what is available in stores today, here is what you need to know in order to understand the price tag. DTV means digital television. This is not the same as high definition, but it is digital. There are many people who are unable to tell the difference in picture quality. This may be all you need if you only watch TV occasionally. SDTV means standard digital television. It is the same as DTV, they just wanted to make it sound cooler.
HDTV means high definition televisions, and it meets all of the things we have described for you so far. It displays the highest resolution possible. It has a wider screen. It has digital surround sound. You will not see the black bars during your movies. It tends to be higher priced. Sports fans really love it.
